I am trying to use the near tool in arcpy. The tool has populated the NEAR_FID field, but unfortunately the NEAR_DIST field is 0 for all rows.

This problem was reported in 2016 (https://community.esri.com/thread/176657), but unfortunately there was no solution and the case went cold. I have tried the recommended solutions:

-Repairing geometry using arcpy.RepairGeometry_management

-Ensuring the tool is ran in Planar mode

The tool is really simple and you can see how it is run here: https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/tool-reference/analysis/near.htm . Both my input files are in shp files, the in features file is in points while the near features file is in polygons.

Thanks for your help!
